Montreat, North Carolina
Montreat, you have been so sweet!
Memories are few and the good ones are the best to hold onto.
Our stay at the Round House, located at 98 Kanawha Drive in the Montreat Town district, was just minutes from the historical Black Mountains of North Carolina. The surrounding areas proved to be very pet and family-friendly with an environment that offered an abundance of memory-making opportunities.
Nestled in on approximately a half-acre of lush forestry, the Montreat Round House was surrounded by privacy. Small trails were open to the imagination with small inspirations along the way. Seven days gave way to just enough time to crack the surface of things to do in the local and surrounding areas.
The variety of food, music, and entertainment was endless. We are adding a list of personal experiences along with things to do when we go back.
Look at some of the amazing places we visited!
Places we experienced:
Montreat Round House:
Not only was this spot refreshingly secluded, but it was also just minutes to Black Mountain where you could fill your belly and your bags with tons of great food and shopping. Tell Scott the Barfly said hello.

Round Mountain Creamery:
This one is a must that the entire family will enjoy. This location is part of the western North Carolina Cheese Trail. The map for the remaining locations can be picked up there so that you can experience a variety of local, freshly made cheeses.

The Bush Farmhouse:
Located at 151 South Ridgeway Avenue, Black Mountain, the South African-inspired cuisine blew us away. Freshly prepared food that filled the appetites of both the young and not-so-old of our group. The wine was fabulous, and the beer was oh-so cold. The staff was friendly and very informative. Our server gave more than just the night’s offerings and backgrounds on the menu items! She took time to walk the kids to the farm animal rescue retreat out back. As a family of animal lovers, this topped the night off perfectly.
My Fathers Pizza and Pasta
If daddy could have made pizza this good, I may have stayed home till I was 40!! Located at 110 Cherry Street, Black Mountain, NC, this venue gave a great filler so that we could walk the beautiful stretch of shops.

The Chemist:
The feel of this place will take you back to a time when prohibition made many of backwoods distillers that produced some of the finest of tastings.
Located at 151 Cox Avenue, Asheville NC., this place blew this ole curmudgeon away. A chemist turned distiller!! What the curmudgeon you say!! The story behind the distiller was one that I haven’t heard before and the succulent flavors of gin that I savored. Definitely a “cure for the common cocktail.”

Ukiah
The atmosphere of this place alone made you feel so good. This is the place where Japanese soul food and southern BBQ meet. Though the food is served in a “when it’s ready” format, the food comes out sporadically and freshly prepared.
Highland Brewing Company:
Wow, wow! If you like exploring new flavors of draft, this is your place. The venue offered a variety of great brews. Loved the idea of the food truck outside the beautifully landscaped building. Don’t worry moms and dads, this hot spot is very kid friendly. Offering up a large play area with picnic tables and a sand volleyball court, you can keep an eye on your little ones while you sip the afternoon away.
PIE.ZZA:
I know what you’re thinking… pizza again?! Well, once you get a hold of these huge pies you’ll see why. These beauties were made fresh from the crust up! All topped heavily with fresh meats and cheeses, there was not a bite that wasn’t savored.
For the next round!!!!
